About Us
Caravan Theatre is a registered not-for-profit, professional theatre company. Our mandate is to stage innovative and inspirational theatre, working from both found and original material. We strive for beauty in design, precision in performance, and elevating the artistic spirit.
Founded by Kathy France, a Canadian theatre artist and content creator, Caravan Theatre travelled the world for 11 years, setting up home in numerous locales including Trinidad, Yugoslavia, Croatia, Kenya, Syria, Thailand and Nepal. With a return to Canada in 2012, Caravan now resides in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
With each move to a new country, Caravan had to reinvent itself, find new artists to draw in, and evaluate the landscape of possibilities. The synergy of working with disparate teams of artists drawn from multiple nationalities and disciplines has shaped Caravan as it exists today.
Besides theatrical productions, Caravan also undertakes Community-Arts and Socially-Engaged Arts projects, building relationships with varied groups both at the grassroots and organizational levels. We position social justice at the heart of these productions.
Caravan is an incubator, creating employment opportunities for rural Nova Scotian arts professionals and arts administrators. We offer a wide range of creation, performance and production opportunities within our region.
